Description

This is a quiet moment at the Burlington Coast Guard Station. Often the harbor is filled with boats, including Dragonboats training for their races. This is also the site of the Penguin Plunge in February. For you international visitors, the Penguin Plunge is a fundraiser in which people collect pledges from donors in exchange for jumping into the frozen lake in February! Air temperatures are often close to zero degrees Fahrenheit at that time, but participants tell me that since the water temperature under the ice is warmer than the air temperature, it's not too bad. I'm not sure I believe that!
